I typically wear a 1X but sized up for a more loose fitting vest. If you are a Large, XL or 1X, you could definitely go with the 1X. If you are a true 1X, feel free to size up if you like a more loose fitting vest but also remember you don't need to size up because of the stretchy elastic sides of the vest.
